Life's pretty good at the moment for
Just days after selling Sebring's yearling brother for $1.3 million at the Gold Coast, Corumbene homebred
The son of Snitzel is proof that when your luck's in, it's in.
A decade ago Corumbene consigned a General Nediym filly to the Magic Millions Yearling Sale but could not find a buyer. The previous year the filly had been purchased as a weanling for $95,000.
George Altomonte decided to race the filly himself and he was not to regret the decision.
Named Isurava she would win three and place in two of her seven starts including a win in the Listed Tatt's QLD Australia Post Stakes.
The fifth foal of Isurava, Menari was scheduled to be sold at last year's Magic Million before falling sick on the eve of the sale.
It again proved fortuitous for Altomonte as Menari now sports the colours of Altomonte's 2013 Golden Slipper heroine Overreach.
Sent off am odd-on favourite under apprentice James Innes Jnr, the Gerald Ryan trainee threw a scare into his supporters by missing the start. He quickly moved into a challenging position behind Godolphin's speedy Exceed And Excel colt Piracy.
Once balanced up,
"I've never ridden a two-year-old as good as this one," Innes Jnr said.
"He's very smart. Gerald said 'ride him where he's happy' and that's exactly what I did.
"Sterling, the foreman, said 'look after him, if the little things go right today he'll just bolt in'.
"Everyone's got a big opinion of the horse. He was on debut so he'll benefit from the run and gain a lot of experience from it."
Isurava has a yearling filly by Snitzel. After missing to Hinchinbrook in 2015 she was covered by Not A Single Doubt last spring.
