Falvelon Mare Wins $1million MM QTIS Plate

Media Release - Saturday January 14
Tough mare Madotti gave credence to the adaged 'third time lucky' at the Gold Coast on Saturday with a narrow win in the $1 million Magic Millions QTIS Plate (1300m).

After a fourth placing behind Le Chef in the 2015 2YO Classic (1200m) and a fifth placing to Mahuta in last year's 3YO Guineas (1400m), Madotti justified the faith showed in her by trainer Matthew Dunn with victory in the lucrative feature.

MadottiDunn praised the ride of jockey Tye Angland and said the four-year-old daughter of Falvelon, an $80,000 Neil Jenkinson buy at the 2014 Magic Millions March Yearling Sale, had always hinted that a feature race victory was within her grasp.

"There's no more deserved horse to win a decent race than Madotti because she's been plagued by bad luck for a long time and it's certainly great to see her get the job done today," Dunn said.

"She was owed one and finally she's drawn a decent gate and although I was surprised to see her in front, it was a very well judged ride from Tye (Angland) to let the other horse go past her on straightening to get to the middle.

"He got to the right part of the track and she did the rest."

After beginning well from barrier five, Angland opted to take the lead on Madotti and was able to dictate a comfortable tempo prior to the turn where Miss Cover Girl looked to race past her.

Angland said he knew his mare had more to offer and, after directing her off the rails, reclaimed the lead inside the final 100m and staved off a late challenges from the fast-finishing In His Stride ($10) and Jumbo Prince ($17).

"If I'd gone with her my horse would've been off the bridle way too early so it wasn't ideal but I just had to take it," Angland said.

The win took Madotti's career prizemoney earnings well past $1 million.
