Making
it two wins in as many starts at Sandown on Wednesday was good looking Northern
Meteor colt Into Orbit, a $350,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Spendthrift Farm from
the draft of Luskin Park, who topped the leading vendors by average list at
Magic Millions last week.
Prepared by Team Hawkes, Into Orbit was a facile debut winner at Pakenham back
in August and was the punter's pick for his return.
Sent out a short priced favourite, Into Orbit missed the start by a couple of
lengths finding himself back in the field and surrounded by horses.
Given a cool ride by Dwayne Dunn, he managed to thread his way into the clear
and forged clear in the final furlong to win the 1000 metre dash by a neck.
Into Orbit is one of three winners from Rockin Babe, an unraced daughter of NZ
Champion 2YO Ballroom Babe and sibling to Group winners Just Dancing, Tahni Girl
and stakes-winner and sire Hidden Dragon.
Into Orbit is from the last crop of foals by ill-fated Northern Meteor, so
Spendthrift Farm will be hoping Black Type comes his way to ensure his future
as a stallion prospect.
Luskin Park sold the current yearling from Rockin Babe at Magic Millions last
week with John Thompson paying $200,000 for the colt by Snitzel.
Luskin Park had a hugely successful sale at the Gold Coast selling six yearlings
at an average $435,000, a sum far in advance of the sale average of $205,226.
