Sun Stud Young Guns Set to Fire at Premier

Buoyed by encouraging results at earlier sales this year, the Sun Stud team will head to the 2017 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale (26, 27 and 28 February, March 1) filled with excited anticipation as the Victorian marketplace gets ready to welcome a stunning selection of first crop yearlings by Melbourne Cup hero Fiorente (IRE) and unbeaten juvenile stakes-winner Fighting Sun.

Fighting SunAn early favourite for the Golden Slipper, after winning the Canonbury Stakes at his second start, the former Gai Waterhouse trained Fighting Sun is the fastest two year son of Northern Meteor at stud and is the best offspring of Group I winner Irish Darling.

Super popular with breeders covering 416 mares in his first three seasons, Fighting Sun has also proven an immediate hit in the sale ring finishing as the leading first season at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale earlier this week as highlighted in this story, click to read.

His success at Inglis Classic followed on from Magic Millions where he had yearlings sell for $140,000, $130,000 and $120,000.

Fighting Sun has 19 entries for Inglis Premier from a wide range of vendors including several highlight lots pictured below.

Fiorente
Fiorente was an outstanding performer on the track giving Gai Waterhouse her first Melbourne Cup success and then capturing the Group I VRC Australian Cup over 2000 metres for good measure.

A Group II winner at 1600 metres and Group I placed at 1400 metres, Fiorente was all class, his superior stamina matched with a serious turn of foot.

Fiorente is by one of the great stallions of the world in Monsun, who has had a remarkable impact in Australia siring three of the past four Melbourne cup winners in Almandin (Ger), Protectionist (Ger)and of course Fiorente.

His 7% stakes-winners to foals worldwide marks Monsun as exceptional and in Australia he has had eight winners from 14 runners with additional stakes-winners Excess Knowledge (GB) and Midsummer Sun (GB) to go with his cup heroes.

Fiorente has already broken the ice at the sales with a filly from Mist (IRE) and colt from Fulminate at Magic Millions selling for $140,000 and $110,000 to Hawkes Racing and Gai Waterhouse respectively, while a filly from Marie Rose in New Zealand fetched $90,000.
