Cup Heroes Add Class to Premier

Media Release - Tuesday February 21

TWO imported performers, who not only were comfortable winners of the Melbourne Cup, but who went close to taking it out twice and at the same time proved world class in middle distance races, each have strong input into 771 lot catalogue put together for the 2017 Inglis Premier Yearling.

Brian Russell looks at Americaine and Fiorente - Both at major studs in Victoria, they are Americain (USA) (Dynaformer (Roberto) – America (Ire) by Arazi (USA) (Blushing Groom), a sire who has very good prospects to succeed in both hemispheres from use at Adam Sangster's Swettenham Stud at Nagambie in Victoria and at Calumet Farm in Kentucky, and Fiorente (Ire) (Monsun (Ger) – Desert Bloom (Ire), by Pilsudski (Ire) (Polish Precedent), a resident at the Sun Stud, a young powerhouse operation headquartered on the former Eliza Park at Kerrie Vic.

AmericainPut to stud in 2013 in both America (40 registered foals, just turned three) and Australia (about 120 foals, current 2yos), Americain had two winners, dams by Shamardal and Johannesburg (USA), and four others placed from his American juvenile runners in 2016. So far he has had only two start in Australia, Aspen Angel (dam by Not a Single Doubt; two starts, second at Flemington) and Geegee Blackprince (Grand Lodge; unplaced at only outing).

Americain had books of 155 and 133 in his first two seasons at Swettenham and it is anticipated he will become a formidable sire, supplying performers for most distances. He himself won and stakes placed in France at two and went on to be successful all told in11 races, nine of them stakes, two of them Group 2s in France, and earn over Aust$5.9million.

Americain has 12 lots in the Premier catalogue, including five each on behalf of Swettenham and Daisy Hill Breeding and Investment, Doreen, Vic.
