Group One Bound Son of Snitzel Heading for Kitchwin Hills

Media Release - Tuesday March 14

In a terrific coup for Kitchwin Hills, royally bred Snitzel son Sooboog has been purchased to stand at their farm in the Hunter Valley and will commence stud duties in 2017.

Sooboog was a dominant last-start Group III VRC Aurie's Star Handicap winner(WATCH HERE)

Sooboog as a yearlingAs an incredibly good looking son of the all-conquering Snitzel, this resulted in Sooboog setting a yearling sale record price for his sire at the time when he was knocked down for a whopping $1.5 million – a figure that today has only been bettered 4 times subsequently for any son of Snitzel.

Originally trained out of the Team Hawkes stable, the imposing looking stallion is now prepared by Darren Weir and will be targeting a number of Group One sprints in the back half of the Autumn and Winter Carnivals.

Typical of his great sire's influence, Sooboog was blessed with abundant precocity and, as a September 2YO, landed his trial by five and half lengths before debuting as favourite with a luckless second to Vancouver in the Breeders' Plate.

John Hawkes commented: "Sooboog was the early favourite for the Golden Slipper for good reason, but after injuring himself when looming up to beat subsequent Golden Slipper winner Vancouver in the Breeders Plate, we never got to see how good he really was at two. However, Sooboog was certainly right up there with some of the better two-year-olds I've ever trained." (WATCH HERE)

Wayne Hawkes is another who has nothing but praise for the son of Snitzel and believes he really has what it takes to succeed at stud.

"Take I Am Invincible as an example, a super type himself and he produces exactly that. Wait until breeders see Sooboog, he's as good a looking horse as you'll come across".

Sooboog also boasts an outstanding pedigree, being a full brother to top-class sprinter Snitzerland, whose biggest success came in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes at Flemington. The flying filly also ran an almighty second behind Pierro in the Golden Slipper of 2012, a race which has proved to be the fastest run Slipper in a decade.

Sooboog - Grant CourtneyRed-hot trainer Darren Weir is very bullish about Sooboog as he launches into his final preparation.

"To date, Sooboog's first full preparation with me has been great, he is in great shape, obviously he is a beautiful horse, with a serious presence".

"With the preparation so far going perfectly, the main target will likely be the Group 1 Goodwood at Morphettville and if we are all happy then onto the Brisbane carnival".

In a unique opportunity that captures the upside of Sooboog's Autumn and Winter carnival campaigns, Kitchwin will offer a select number of breeders an opportunity to secure a lifetime breeding right.

Priced at just $30,000 (plus GST), a breeding entitlement allows the owner to breed two live foals in 2017, two live foals in 2018 and a lifetime breeding right from 2019 onwards.

Sooboog is pencilled in to stand at a minimum of $12,000 (plus GST) this year. However, benefiting breeder entitlement holders, that fee may subsequently be revised up depending on his performances this preparation.

"We are really excited to have secured Sooboog," said Kitchwin's Mick Malone.

"Breeders can see with their own eyes, Written Tycoon, Beneteau, Not a Single Doubt, Hinchinbrook, I am Invincible, whilst none of them were G1 winners they were all ripping types and as importantly possessed serious 2yo speed. We are proud and excited to be able to offer breeders lifetime entitlements in Sooboog."

THE OFFER . . .

A lifetime breeding entitlement can be purchased before Sooboog resumes his Autumn campaign for $30,000 (plus GST) (limited to a maximum of 40 entitlements)

1. The entitlement allows the owner to breed

· two live foals from the 2017 season.

· an additional two live foals from the 2018 season.

· an entitlement of one live foal/year from 2019 onwards.

2. Additional mares bred by entitlement holders may be done so at a 25% discount to advertised service fee.

3. Sooboog to stand at a minimum of $12,000 + GST in 2017 (this may be revised up pending Autumn and Winter carnival outcomes).

4. In Sooboog's first four seasons at stud, the breeders entitlements are not transferable and may be used only by the registered owner of the entitlement.
