Super Colt and Star Filly Highlight Middlebrook Valley Easter Draft

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 22
Verna and David Metcalfe and their team at Middlebrook Valley Lodge have a first rate reputation for producing quality athletes such as Caulfield Guineas winner Divine Prophet, whose half-sister is one of the stars of their draft for the 2017 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Lot 294 is by Exceed and Excel from terrific producer Prophet Jewel, the dam of four winners from five foals to race headed by top class Group I winning colt Divine Prophet and Group I placed Group III winner Proisir.

"Prophet Jewel has been with us for a long time, so we've seen all her foals and this is the best filly she's ever produced," said Verna Metcalfe.

"She's very typical of the family in that she's not overly big, but very athletic and switched on.

"This filly was born to run and from day one has loved to gallop. She's always the one out in front, she always has to be first!

"This family tends to mature later when they turn two and start to grow. Divine Prophet and Proisir were both the same and developed into stunning colts at three."

While the filly is a pedigree standout, Lot 92, a Sebring colt from stakes-winner Dama De Noche is the standout on type.

"He is an absolute cracker, an outstanding colt in every way," Metcalfe said.

A powerhouse chestnut in the mould of Sebring's $7million earner Criterion, the colt is a half-brother to stakes-winner Nocturnelle, the dam of this season's 2YO winner Dracarys (Snitzel), who made $1million at this sale last year.

Dama De Noche has left five winners that also include stakes-placed Seduced and Catch Your Eyes.

I Am Invincible will be one of the white hot sires at this sale and Lot 246will garner plenty of attention coming from a pedigree that has produced current season Group I winners Russian Revolution and I Am a Star as well as Golden Slipper place-getter Tulip.

By I Am Invincible from Moonlight Music, he is a half-brother to stakes-winner Moonlight Hussler and claims Fanfreluche as his fourth dam as do Russian Revolution and Tulip.

"He's a typical Vinnie with a great walk," Metcalfe said.

"Quality colt all around."

At the end of the day it's all about producing athletes and Middlebrook Valley Lodge have foaled / raised or consigned a growing list of top class performers headed by Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign,  Caulfield Cup winner Jameka, champion colt All Too Hard, Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Military Rose and this season's Group III winner Selenia.

Other leading lights include, 2015 Provincial Championship winner Sure and Fast and Group II placed Kimberley Star who were both sold as yearlings by Middlebrook Valley Lodge and have brought their owners much success and prizemoney along the way.
