Sun Stud’s Colt Salutes

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 22
At the spring two year-old trials there was no more impressive winner than Sun Stud's Not a Single Doubt colt Condor Heroes, who broke his maiden in style at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

The Gerald Ryan trained colt finished second to Khan on debut in the Listed ATC Breeders Plate last October and was scheduled to return to racing in the Group III ATC Pago Pago Stakes two weeks ago in a bid to secure a start in the Golden Slipper.

Condor Heroes as a yearlingHe was scratched at the gate after bolting on the way to the barriers on that occasion, but was in a more tractable frame of mind this time around.

He led throughout as a hot favourite and won the 1100 metre maiden by a length with Mark Zahra in the saddle.

Condor Heroes is now likely to be aimed at the Group III ATC Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on April 1.

Melbourne jockey Mark Zahra, who is the principal jockey for Condor Heroes' owners Sun Stud, made a rare trip up to Sydney for the ride.

"That's the first time I've ever been on him. He was sweating quite badly and wanted to go a bit hard early but once we got into the straight the more he wanted to relax and I had to shake him so I think he'll get the idea," Zahra said.

"He just needs to calm down for that first little bit to make him stronger at the end.

"I think he's getting the idea and he hadn't raced in a while so 1100 (metres) on a heavy track, he's done a good job."

A $190,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Riversdale Farm draft for Sun Bloodstock, Condor Heroes is the second winner for Gosetgo, a juvenile metro winning More Than Ready (USA) half-sister to stakes-placed Loftily.

The current yearling from Gosetgo, a colt by All Too Hard, will be offered by Riversdale Farm at Inglis Easter as Lot 165 and is pictured below.
