The thoroughly game Silent Sedition came back from a second in the Group I Coolmore Classic over 1500 metres at Rosehill Gardens to claim a maiden Group 1 win for trainer Andrew Noblet and jockey Katelyn Mallyon in Friday night's $500,000 Group I Keogh Homes William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.
Just about everything surrounding this most likeable daughter of War Chant, from the time her dam was purchased for $1,750 before her half-brother comes out and wins the world's richest race, reads like a story from a Boy's Own novel.
Given a perfect ride by Mallyon, Silent Sedition gamely held the challenge of Hellbent (I Am Invincible) by a short-half-head with Star Turn (Star witness) making it four consecutive Group I thirds. (photo Grant Courtney).
"I'm just so thrilled," Mallyon said.
"My family will be so proud, I'm so happy I can win a Group I for the Mallyon name, which is so rich in racing history.
"What a training effort by Andrew Noblet to bring her back from a 1500 metres in Sydney to 1200 metres.
"She fights like a tiger and she doesn't want to get beaten,
With her first win at the highest level, Silent Sedition advances her record to 6 wins, 6 seconds and 3 thirds from 16 starts with earnings of $961,650.
Purchased by Tony Curnow's Aqua Trained Thoroughbreds for $45,000 from the Korilya Stud draft at the 2014 Magic Millions Perth Yearling sale, Silent Sedition is out of the unraced Fiorentina (Dubai Destination) who had been purchased for just $1,750 at the 2009 Inglis August Thoroughbred sale.
Fiorentina's two years younger half-brother Monterosso (Dubawi) went on to win the world's richest race, the Group 1 Dubai World Cup.
Fiorentina and Monterosso are out of the Group 1 Coolmore Classic heroine Porto Roco whose first foal Seven Stars (King's Best) is the dam of Group II Expressway Stakes winner Happy Galaxy.
In 2015, Korilya Stud dispersed its bloodstock and Fiorentina made a more respectable $50,000 to the bid of Tubba Bloodstock when carrying a filly by Dick Turpin (IRE).
Fiorentina has a yearling colt by promising young stallion Gingerbread Man and it was no surprise when Aqua Trained Thoroughbreds / Andrew Noblet Racing went to $170,000 to secure the chestnut from the Korilya Stud draft at the recent Magic Millions Perth Yearling sale.
Fiorentina foaled a colt by Snippetson last August and was bred back to Coolmore Stud's first season stallion Pride Of Dubai.
