Aquis Farm Lead the Charge at Inglis Broodmare Sale

Media Release - Tuesday April 11

Another day of boom clearance rates and broad buyer action has led to a successful Day 2 of the Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale, the penultimate day of selling at Newmarket.

Action finished with an 88% clearance rate for the 160 mares sold, at an average of $42,878.

Godolphin was one of 34 vendors to enjoy a 100% clearance rate, selling all 24 of their day's offerings.

Godolphin's John Sunderland was thrilled with not only the perfect results but the new homes the mares were bound for.

"We're delighted with the support we've got from the buyers, there's a great buying bench here and it's been a great return for us,'' Sunderland said.

"It's very rewarding for everyone to see such nice mares go to good homes and get good money for them.

"I really want to thank and congratulate Inglis for bringing such a fantastic broad and strong buying bench together.

"It's really made this sale what it is and full congratulations to Mark, Jonathan and the entire team.''

Our Girl RaquieTeeley Assets had just the one entry,Our Girl Raquie, which ended as the day's top Lot, selling to Aquis/Blue Sky Bloodstock for $500,000.

Unraced three year-old Our Girl Raquie comes from the world renowned Teeley Assets family of Shantha's Choice, the dam of Redoute's Choice, Manhattan Rain and Platinum Scissors, so was a premium item at this sale.

Aquis/Blue Sky bought 12 Lots, ending as the day's leading buyer by overall purchases, aggregate ($1,392,000) and average (three or more purchases) at $116,000.

Aquis' Director of Sales Jonathan Crowley said the team was "very happy with the day''.

"To get 12 lovely mares, including the very well bred mare in Our Girl Raquie, we're delighted with what we're taking home,'' Crowley said.

"It was a strong day but you have to give the money for the mares that you want and we were most pleased with what we got.''

On the purchase of Our Girl Raquie (Fastnet Rock x Ten Carat Rock), Crowley said: "Mares with pedigrees like her don't come around too often and she's a very good looking type as well.

"There's plenty of places we can send her now so we'll go home and think about it and pick a nice stallion for her.''

The results on the opening two days has set up a grand finale to Newmarket, with tomorrow's action being the last day of sales ever at the iconic venue before Inglis' move to Riverside Stables at Warwick Farm.

Day 3 of the Australian Broodmare & Weanling Sale, for which 206 broodmares have been catalogued, starts at 10am.
