Scoring
a debut win at Canberra on Friday in the Triple Crown colours was two year-old
Sepoy gelding Midnight Soldier, an $80,000 Magic Millions purchase from the
Turangga Farm draft.
First up over 1300 metres and taking on older rivals made it no easy task, but
Midnight Soldier travelled up on the pace and fought on doggedly to win by half
a head.
A three-quarter brother-in-blood to stakes-placed War Hero, Midnight Soldier is
the first winner for Midnight Fantasy, a half-sister to stakes-winner Tampiko
from Group I winner Ancient Song.
Midnight Fantasy has a weanling filly by Sepoy and is in foal to Lonhro's Group
I winner Exosphere.
Midnight Soldier is the 28th winner this season for Darley's Sepoy,
whose service fee has dropped sharply again this year to $16,500.
