The buoyant yearling market
Oliver Koolman went to $110,000 to purchase lot 103, the fifth live foal of Sydney winner Sinuous, on behalf of Anton Koolman Bloodstock.
Koolman said he thought the colt was by far the best of the horses he had looked at in the sale.
"We came here to buy a horse and we found one - he stood out," Koolman said. "we were looking for a trade horse but we've probably paid too much for him to do that so we'll race him. "
"We've got some close friends around us that we'll talk to in the next few days and then we'll look for a trainer.
"We do a bit for Chris Waller and he trains a few for us and we have a good relationship with him - we're hoping we can get a winner at Flemington on Tuesday with Egg Tart on her way to the Oaks in Adelaide."
Two fillies sold for $80,000, the first a flashy daughter of Written Tycoon that will be trained by Mick Price after the Caulfield trainer fended off fellow trainer Robbie Laing for lot 54.
"We like the stallion and have bought some nice young horses on the way through. I thought this filly is a good example of the stallion and on the way the market has been at other sales she is great value," Price said.
"She's a lovely elegant filly and we like buying off Blue Gum Farm.
"With the VOBIS bonuses on offer, by the time we syndicate her into shares she is affordable and she's on the market so if anyone would like to join the stable she's there waiting for you."
