Aquis to Sponsor New $150,000 2YO Fillies Race

Media Release - Tuesday April 25

An exciting new race has been added to the Winter Carnival, to bring some of the country's most promising fillies to Brisbane.

After lengthy negotiations, Thoroughbred Breeders Queensland Association President, Basil Nolan has secured a $150,000 2YO Fillies 1200m race on the Tattersall's Club Tiara Race Day.

"I'm thrilled we've been able to add this event to the Tatt's Tiara program," said Mr Nolan.

"With such a big prize purse I have no doubt it will attract the attention of the country's leading trainers and will be hotly contested."

Mr Nolan praised Aquis Farm for their major sponsorship of the race, which will be known as the Furnaces at Aquis Crystal Slipper.

"Aquis is truly leaving an impression on the Queensland breeding and racing industry, and it's fantastic to have the support of this dynamic organisation," said Mr Nolan.

"This race wouldn't be possible without their contribution."

Aquis Farm was eager to sponsor the new race to help develop two year old fillies racing within Queensland and Australia.

"Aquis would like to be instrumental in developing a 2yo fillies race that we believe, in future years, can become a black type race," said Aquis Farm Business Development Manager, Paul Knight.

Racing Queensland CEO Eliot Forbes congratulated the TBQA and Aquis for their financial support of the race and acknowledge their enthusiasm for wanting to see a quality fillies race added to the Winter Carnival Program.

The 152ndTattersall's Club Tiara Race Day will be held on Saturday 24 June and includes the Furnaces at Aquis Crystal Slipper, the G3 Carlton Mid Tattersall's Cup, the G3 WJ Healy Stakes and of course, the G1 Sky Racing Tattersall's Club Tiara.

The Tiara is the final G1 race of the season and is the main target for many breeders and owners because it's the last chance of the season for a filly or mare to increase their stud value.

"I hope that ultimately the Crystal Slipper will follow the lead of the Tiara and be lifted to Group 1 status at some time in the near future," said Mr Nolan.

Everyone involved in the planning of the Furnaces at Aquis Crystal Slipper is excited to see industry reaction and the field that it attracts.
