Group Two Winner for Exceed And Excel

Mark Smith - Sunday May 28

With 78 stakes winners in the southern hemisphere and 53 in the north, Exceed And Excel has done an excellent job in advancing the cause of the Australian thoroughbred around the globe.

One of those north of the equator is the Clive Cox-trained 4-year-old mare Priceless who owned stakes wins at Bath and Doncaster before rising to new heights in Saturday's Group II Temple Stakes at Haydock Park.

A 70,000 guineas Tattersalls Yearling, Priceless advanced her record to 4 wins, 2 seconds and 1 third from 12 starts.

"She's just getting better and better," Cox told Sporting Life.

"Since we dropped her back to five furlongs she's just improved and taken a step up. She was very green in her younger days and we tried to stretch her out in trip, but bringing her back to five (furlongs) has been the making of her."

Priceless is a half-sister to the Group II Mill Reef Stakes runner-up Doctor Brown who raced in Hong Kong and Australia as Helene Brilliant.

The son of Dr Fong won a couple of races at Sha Tin but remained winless in 17 starts in Australia.
