Champagne Return for Cuddles

Tara Madgwick - Saturday June 10
A knockout winner of the Group I VRC Emirates Stakes back in 2004 for Stuart Ramsey's Turangga Farm, high class mare Sky Cuddle featured at Randwick on Saturday as the dam of promising two year-old filly Champagne Cuddles, who returned successfully from a long layoff.

Champagne CuddlesPrepared by Bjorn Baker, Champagne Cuddles (image Steve Hart) won easily on debut last October in the $150,000 ATC Pierro Plate and was fancied for the Magic Millions, but was forced to the sidelines not long after.

The daughter of Not a Single Doubt was tuned up with a recent second in a barrier trial and was sent out favourite for the open juvenile event over 1000 metres despite her lack of match practice.

She performed up to expectation, finding the line strongly through the slushy conditions to score a dominant two length win taking her earnings soaring past $170,000.

"She's a very talented filly," said stable representative Jack Bruce.

"I don't think she really handled it, but she was still too good, Class got her through.

"Today was a great starting point for her and now we'll be looking towards the spring."

Bred by Turangga Farm and consigned to the Magic Millions, Champagne Cuddles was passed in shy of her $200,000 reserve and is leased by Champagne Ladies Syndicate, a big syndicate of very happy women including members of the Ramsey family.

Sadly, Champagne Cuddles is the second last foal for Sky Cuddle, who died last year leaving behind a yearling colt by Not a Single Doubt that was sold earlier this week at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale for $70,000 to Stephen Gray.

Bred and retained to race by Stuart Ramsey, Sky Cuddle was the best of five stakes-winners from the farm's blue hen producer Suggestive, so it would be lovely to see Champagne Cuddles gain Black Type and add further success to this terrific female family.

There are several members of this great family being offered at the Turangga Farm Inglis Dispersal on July 23 at White Park, Scone. Click here to see the catalogue.
