Debut Winner for Excelebration

Tara Madgwick - Saturday June 10
Andrew Campbell has good reason to consider doubling his hand in the closing black type two-year-old event of the season.

The Opaki trainer has the Listed Ryder Stakes on July 29 on the programme of Waldorf and he will also now give thought to Getty joining his stablemate in the Otaki feature.

The former finished a close third when resuming at Te Rapa on Saturday while the latter made an impressive start to his career at Trentham with a strong front-running performance to win the Platinum Homes Taranaki 2YO Maiden.

"We'll wait and see how they come through their runs before deciding," Campbell said.

"Getty's still a little bit weak, but he'll be ready for the nice three-year-old races next season."

Getty -Race ImagesGetty jumped straight to the front for rider Johnathan Parkes and, despite not being comfortable in the ground, proved too strong in the run home.

"He was travelling well to the turn and then he hit that really heavy stuff in the straight, but he's got the job done," Campbell said.

"He went shin sore earlier on, but he's good now and he's learning all the time."

By Excelebration, Getty was a $75,000 Karaka purchase out of Cambridge Stud's 2016 draft and he is from the family of the former New Zealand Horse of the Year and multiple Group One winner Ocean Park.

Beltoy raced in behind the pace and ran on gamely for second ahead of the debutante Veuve Cliquot, who would have finished closer but for racing erratically under pressure. – NZ Racing Desk.
