A purple
patch being enjoyed by Yarraman Park's Hinchinbrook continued on Monday at
Warwick Farm with a tenacious win for two year-old gelding Wild Heart, a
$170,000 Magic Millions purchase for Vinery Stud from the Turangga Farm draft.
Trained by Team Hawkes, Wild Heart was a close second on debut at Geelong last
month to promising youngster Andaz, who dead heated at Flemington on Saturday
with another Hawkes runner in Royal Phoenix.
Partnered by Hugh Bowman, Wild Heart worked forwards from the jump and kicked
strongly to the line to hold off a determined challenge from Curdled to win the
1200 metre maiden by a long head.
"It was a nice win," said Michael Hawkes.
"He went forward and it was a good solid effort on a testing track.
"He's very similar to Royal Phoenix and he's just going to keep improving."
Bred by Turangga Farm, Wild Heart is the sixth winner from six foals to race
from Wildly Entertained (USA), an unraced half-sister by Forestry to US Group
II winner Sovereign Kitty.
Wild Heart is the second metropolitan
juvenile winner bred by Stuart Ramsey's Turangga Farm in the last three days
with Champagne Cuddles successful at Randwick on Saturday.
The Turangga Farm Inglis Dispersal on July 23 at White Park, Scone offers an
