Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday June 13
Barrier trials at Rosehill on Tuesday morning featured eight juvenile heats, five of them won by youngsters trained by Chris Waller, who is no stranger to producing a good one at the back end of the season.

Waller’s Australian Horse of the Year Winx made her debut as a two year-old in June 2014 and won both of her starts as a juvenile before the end of the season.

Among the five two year-old winners from the Waller stable on Tuesday morning was another daughter of Winx’s sire Street Cry (IRE).

A homebred for Meringo Stud, Ballet Baby is bred to be well above average as a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group II winner Predatory Pricer from Shady Henrietta, who is a half-sister to legendary sprinter Takeover Target.

Ballet Baby had trialled once previously back in January when she just went around for a look, but showed more talent this time around.

She jumped in front and travelled with the leaders before striding to a clear advantage after straightening for home. Always on the bit, she coasted to the line in the heavy ground to win her 900 metre heat in 56 seconds.

It was an easy trouble free assignment and Ballet Baby will go home feeling good tonight.

Calculated as a yearlingThe Star Thoroughbreds colours were carried by So You Think colt Calculated, who steamed home for Hugh Bowman to catch a tearaway leader in his heat.

Calculated had one start back in February when finishing midfield at Rosehill over 1100 metres after being wide throughout, but looks to have returned in great style and does have a keen resemblance to his sire when he gets rolling.

A $130,000 Magic Millions purchase for Star Thoroughbreds from the Goodoowd Farm draft, Calculated is a half-brother to stakes-winner Calcatta from stakes-winning Commands mare Calchris.

The other two year-old winners trained by Chris Waller were Luiza (I Am Invincible), Play (Sepoy) and Gresham (Sebring).
