Widden
Stud stallions sired the first four home in the open juvenile event at Randwick
on Saturday, the 1200 metre dash won by Sebring filly Lipizzan, a $120,000
Inglis Easter purchase for Laurel Oak Bloodstock from the Newhaven Park draft.
A brave second in the Listed Woodlands Stud Stakes at Scone when resuming from
a spell, Lipizzan (image Steve Hart) won her next start at Canterbury before chasing home classy
filly Champagne Cuddles on June 10.
With race fitness on her side and a good gate, the Garry Portelli trained filly
proved too strong for the favourite Last Starfighter (Star Witness) when
cruising clear to win by nearly three lengths.
Three lengths further back were Star Galaxy (Star Witness) and Music Addition
(Your Song) finishing third and fourth.
With two wins and four placings from six starts, Lipizzan has already won over
$165,000 for her large group of Laurel Oak Bloodstock owners.
Lipizzan was bred by Laurel Oak in partnership and is the first winner for
Absolutely Flying, a Commands three-quarter sister to Group III winner
Camporella.
She is one 14 two year-old winners for Sebring this season, the Golden Slipper
winner set to cover another outstanding book of mares at Widden this spring at
a fee of $66,000.
