Red Dazzler's Rudy Racing's Latest Millionaire

Mark Smith - Saturday June 24

Crowd favourite Rudy took his earnings to over $1 million with a hard-fought win in Saturday's Group III Carlton Mid Tattersall's Cup (2200m) at Doomben.

The 6yo son of Red Dazzler was given a positive ride by Tim Clark under top-weight of 59.5 kgs.

In a driving finish the Helen Page-trained gelding defeated More Energy (Fastnet Rock) by a long neck with War Baby (Warhead) a short-neck back in third.

Bred and raced by Dr Tom Clarke with his brothers Dave and Don, Rudy takes his overall record to 9 wins, 5 seconds and 8 thirds from 49 starts with earnings of $1,018,825.

Later that season the son of Red Dazzler finished fourth behind Kermadec, Real Impact and Royal Descent in the Group I Doncaster Mile at Randwick.

More recently he was third in the Group 1 Doomben Cup and second in the Group II O'Shea Stakes.

"In both races Rudy had no luck and I am thrilled for the owners. It is a Queensland win. He is by a Queensland sire, out of a Queensland mare, owned in Queensland and trained in Queensland," Page told AAP.

"Rudy has been so consistent throughout his career in Brisbane and when we have gone to Sydney and Melbourne."

Rudy is the fourth foal of the 7-time winning Success Express mare Go On Now Go a great granddaughter of the Grade 1 Arlington-Washington Lassie Stakes winner Milingo (Cougar).

Go On Now Go has an unraced 2yo filly by Denman named Chinch and a yearling filly by Helmet.

She was bred back to Red Dazzler last spring having missed to Choisir in 2015.

A Group I winning son of Red Ransom (USA), Red Dazzler stands at Eureka Stud where his 2017 service fee has been set at $4,400.
