Nettoyer a $20,000 Multi Millionairess

Mark Smith - Saturday April 17

Back at the scene of their biggest wins, Doncaster Mile heroine Nettoyer edged out Epsom Handicap heroine Probabeel in a thrilling finish to Saturday’s $1million Group 1 Moet and Chandon Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

It requires split second timing to get the best out of Nettoyer and Tommy Berry executed it perfectly. The daughter of Sebring defeated triple Group 1 winner Probabeel (Savabeel) by a short-head with a further one and three-quarter lengths back to the 4yo Deep Field mare Quantum Mechanic in third.

With her second Group 1 success Nettoyer advances her record to seven wins, two seconds and six thirds from 42 starts with earnings of $2,394,200.

Nettoyer had been winless in nine starts since causing a boilover in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile 12 months ago. The 7yo daughter of Sebring was due to be consigned to the Inglis Chairman’s Sale, but trainer Wendy Roach said that has been put on hold.

Wendy Roche said all’s well that ends well but it could quite easily have been one that got away after admitting she had forgot to enter the quirky mare when booking Tommy Berry for the ride.

“Tommy’s manager rang back the next day and said yes (he will take the ride), but you’re not in the race. So, I rang (part-owner) Greg White and his wife Jodie and they paid the late nom ($22,000), so I can pay them back now,” Roche said.

uo;She’s her own worst enemy. She was naughty in the gates, which was a good sign, but she was naughty last week when she missed the kick by three. She was 20 lengths off them and you can’t do that in a Group 1 against the world’s best horses.

“She’s only got two more starts and then hopefully, if Godolphin’s listening, will be going to Exceed And Excel.”

Only two yearlings at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale made less than the $20,000 shelled out by John Crowley for Nettoyer.

She was put through the Inglis Ready To Run Sale with a reserve of $80,000. When bidding halted at $55,000 it was back on the float home to Mittagong.

Bred by Invermien Pty Ltd, Nettoyer is the best of five winners from as many to race out of the former talented racemare Cleanup, a half-sister by Dehere (USA) to Group III winner She's Clean from the family of Group I Oaks winners Absolutely and Abbey Marie.

Cleanup was consigned by Glenesk Thoroughbreds to the 2020 Inglis Chairman's Sale. Carrying a filly by The Autumn Sun, she was purchased by Bromfield Park for $260,000.

Cleanup has a 2yo filly by I Am Invincible and was covered by Exceed And Excel last spring.
