Shamus Award's Enchanted Heart Captures Takeover Target

Mark Smith - Saturday May 8

Shamus Award celebrated a fee increase to $33,000 at Rosemont Stud in the forthcoming season when Enchanted Heart became his 13th stakes-winner following a barnstorming win in Saturday’s Listed Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford.

With Jason Collett in the saddle, the Kris Lees-trained mare defeated Snitz (Snitzel) by a half-length with a further three-quarter of a length back to Easy Eddie (Super Easy) in third.

With her first stakes win, the Australian Bloodstock colour-bearer advanced her record to eight wins, two seconds and two thirds from 18 starts with earnings of $376,105.

“With that type of track today and getting a lovely cart into the race off a good tempo and a lovely ride by Jason, she got the job done,” Kris Lees said.
“ It might not have been the strongest Takeover Target, but they can’t take that off her CV. She is a nice mare going forward over the winter, and we will consider Brisbane if we can find the right race and ground for her.”

Purchased by Australian Bloodstock for $80,000 out of the Golden Grove Stud draft at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Enchanted Heart is the best of two winners from three to race out of the Show A Heart mare Shattered Heart.

Blue Light Enhances Breeding Success
For successful breeding outcomes, timing is everything. The horse’s natural reproductive period coincides with the light-filled days of summer. As seasonal breeders, the naturally lengthening days of spring suppress melatonin and in turn stimulate reproductive hormones that maximise fertility for both mares and stallions.
