Brooklyn Hustle is a Ripper

Mark Smith - Saturday June 12

For a mare that could not buy a win, Starspangledbanner’s four-year-old daughter Brooklyn Hustle has strung two together for the first time in her career.

Coming off a win in the Group III SAJC Proud Miss Stakes, the Jason Warren and Dean Krongold-trained mare completed a profitable day for Craig Williams when she motored home to a stunning victory in the Group II Dane Ripper stakes (1300m) at Eagle Farm.

Back in last place with 250m left to run, Brooklyn Hustle came down the outside fence to defeat Odeum (Written Tycoon) by a long-neck with Madam Rouge (Zoustar) a half-head back in third.

A homebred for Anthony Mithen’s Rosemont Stud, Brooklyn Hustle advances her record to four wins, and two thirds from 16 starts, with earnings of $660,120.

“I had a few question marke about her getting out to a slightly extended trip, but she got around the track really well and will derive a lot of experience from today,” Williams said.

“She will go to the Group 1 Tatts Tiara to end the Brisbane carnival, and I think it will be a cracking race.”

By Rosemont’s resident stallion Starspangledbanner, Brooklyn Hustle is out of the imported mare Joint Aspiration (GB).

A daughter of the outstanding Pivotal, Joint Aspiration (GB) was a handy racemare winning a Listed race at Belmont and placing in a group III at Lone Star Park, and Listed races at Newmarket and Kempton. She was highly enough regarded to contest the Group 1 Fillies Mile, Epsom Oaks, the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and The Curragh and the Nassau Stakes without ever really threatening in any of them.

Consigned to the 2007 Tattersalls November Mixed Sale, carrying a positive Test to Gone West (USA), Joint Aspiration (GB) was knocked down to French Bloodstock Agency for 320,000 guineas.

Joint Aspiration (GB) is the best of three winners out of the Welcome Home mare Most Welcome, a half-sister to the dual Listed Stakes winner Two Clubs (First Trump) who is the dam of Red Clubs (Red Ransom) the Champion Sprinter in Europe in 2007.

Red Club’s six wins included the Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup, Group II Diadem stakes and Group II Coventry Stakes and placed in three Group 1s July Cup, Middle Park Stakes and Phoenix Stakes.

Joint Aspiration (GB) has three winners from six to race, including the Elusive City mare Reign (IRE), who has joined her dam at Rosemont.

Reign (IRE) has kick-started her career with two stakes-winners from her first three foals in Europe. Sopran Ival (Ivanwood) won a Listed race at two in Italy last year to emulate the deeds of her half-sister Gold Trail (Dream Ahead) two years before.

Joint Aspiration (GB) has a yearling filly by Tarzino and was covered by Exceed And excel last spring.
