One to Watch – Wyong

Tara Madgwick - Thursday April 28

A full sister to Group winners Harpo Marx and Forbearance, Irish bred Galileo filly Awesome Wonder could not win in three starts in Ireland last year for Joseph O’Brien, but she cast off maiden status in her first Australian start at Wyong on Thursday.

Now trained by John O’Shea for Jason Abrahams, who bred and sold her Group I winning mother Nechita, Awesome Wonder powered home to win the 1600m maiden running away by half a length.

Awesome Wonder was bought for 140,000 pounds from the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale at Doncaster in 2020 by Brian Grassick Bloodstock on behalf of Jason Abrahams.

Nechita is back in Australia.

She is the third winner from Fastnet Rock’s Group I winning daughter Nechita, who topped the 2013 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale when selling for $1.55 million to Coolmore.

Sent to stud in Ireland, Nechita was returned to Australia last year in foal to Frankel and produced a colt last spring and is now in foal to Justify (USA).

Coolmore will offer On Tiptoes (IRE), a full sister to Awesome Wonder, at Magic Millions National as Lot 1241 in foal to Camelot.
