War Front Quinella in Middle Park - Lonhro's Cardsharp Third

Mark Smith - Sunday October 1

War Front colt US Navy Flag led home his Ballydoyle stablemate Fleet Review in Saturday's Group I Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket with Lonhro's Group II July Stakes winner Cardsharp clocking in third.

Both the winner and runner-up are by War Front out of Galileo mares.

Ballydoyle's number one seed, Group I Phoenix Stakes winner Sioux Nation (Scat Daddy) finished sixth.

"It was no surprise he ran well," Heffernan told Sporting Life.

I thought Ryan (Moore, on Sioux Nation) was the danger, but his horse is big and might be a little bit weak. This lad is out of a Galileo mare and that's what kicked in.

"He's a horse that's a bit gawky and looks around, so the blinkers help him focus and make the jockey's job easier. Aidan will take him home and have a look at him and see what shape he's in."

Winning trainer Aidan O'Brien said U S Navy Flag will be kept to sprinting in the short term.

"This horse won very easily (in the Gr III Round Tower Stakes at the Curragh) last start. He is a very solid horse and he is a brother to (dual Gr I winner) Roly Poly. He is out of a Galileo mare and they just don't give up. He takes his racing well and is progressing with every run.

"He is long and he is powerful. I think he will go down the sprinting route, but there is nothing to say he won't get seven.

"He is a hardy horse that is progressing and when horses are like that, you can keep going with them if they want to go and I wouldn't rule out the Dewhurst with him."

US Navy Flag is one of three stakes winners for the champion Galileo mare Misty For Me the winner of the Group I Irish One Thousand Guineas, Group I Prix Marcel Boussac-Criterium des Pouliches, Group I Moyglare Stud Stakes and Group I Pretty Polly Stakes.

Besides the Group I Prix Rothschild and Group I Falmouth Stakes winner Roly Poly, Misty For Me is also the dam of Fastnet Rock's Group III winning daughter Cover Song.
