Kementari's Caulfield Guineas head start

Darryl Sherer - Tuesday October 10

If Saturday's Caulfield Guineas is indeed the stallion making race then Kementari already has a head start on most of his rivals.

Kementari is by Lonhro, winner of the 2001 Caulfield Guineas and his dam Yavanna is a daughter of Redoute's Choice, winner of the Caulfield Guineas in 1999.

Trainer James Cummings was at Caulfield and Flemington on Tuesday morning and was delighted with Kementari's appearance.

"He's in really good shape and gone ahead - I think he looks better than he did heading into the Prelude and he ran so well there," Cummings said.

"I loved his Prelude run when he warmed to the task late in the race. I thought it was a beautiful trial."

Kementari finished fourth behind Menari in the Group II Run To The Rose at Rosehill first-up then was beaten one length into third behind Perast and Summer Passage in the Group III Caulfield Guineas Prelude over 1400m after being third around the home turn.

On Tuesday he looked fluent working over 1200m on the course proper under race jockey Damian Lane, breaking 24 seconds for the last 400m.

Although he has only raced four times, Cummings said he feels Kementari has the form to be in the finish on Saturday.

"This is the race we've set him for and he's ready to run well," Cummings said.

"He comes to his grand final in top condition. He's got to get out to the mile obviously but I think he's spot on for the race."

Kementari has drawn barrier 10 in the Caulfield Guineas and is available at $5.50 with several wagering operators.
