American Liaison Breaks Through - Deep Field Half-Brother at Easter

Mark Smith - Friday February 24

Following five consecutive placings, the three-year-old American Pharoah (USA) gelding American Liaison shed his maiden status over 1457m at Kilmore on Friday.

Ridden by Joe Bowditch for Mathew Ellerton, American Liaison went to the front after being caught four wide early. Despite a tendency to over-race, he never looked back and had the field off the bit chasing before the home turn.

The son of American Pharoah (USA) was untroubled to defeat the Deep Filed gelding Irish Crickets by three and three-quarter lengths with a further two and a quarter lengths back to the Free Eagle gelding Living Free in third.

American Liaison carries the colours of My Racehorse, who race him in association with his breeder, David Moodie’s Hesket Bloodstock.

Mathew Ellerton-trained gelding advances his record to one win, two seconds, and three thirds from seven starts with earnings of $71,125.

A half-brother to stakes-placed winner Styling City (Starspangledbanner), American Liaison is the third winner from four to race for the Artie Schiller (USA) mare Secret Liaison who numbered wins in the Listed MRC Twilight Glow Stakes and Listed MRC Lord Stakes among her six wins.

American Liaison’s breakthrough will be welcomed at Newgate Farm, which consigns a half-brother by Deep Field to the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale (Lot 342).

Newgate purchased Secret Liaison for $145,000 at the 2020 National Broodmare Sale and sold the Written Tycoon colt she was carrying to George Moore Bloodstock for $375,000 at the Magic Millions last year.

Not served in 2021, Secret Liaison visited Extreme Choice last spring.
