Overshare Filly Kristobel Breaks Maiden

Mark Smith - Wednesday March 29

Two-year-old Overshare filly Kristobel credited her trainer Sarah Rutten with her first in a 1050m maiden at Balaklava on Wednesday.

Ridden by Kayla Crowther, Kristobel opened her winning account at start four and third for Rutten, defeating the Sir Prancealot (IRE) gelding Sir Panama by three-quarters of a length with the Brave Smash (JPN) gelding Kalasec the same distance back in third.

Kristobel was third on debut at Morphettville on February 4 when trained by Tony & Calvin McEvoy. With the McEvoys heading to Victoria, their former employee, Rutten, took out her trainer’s license.

The daughter of Overshare finished second at Morphettville on debut for her new stable and was an honest fifth in the Listed Cinderella Stakes.

“I’m so happy for Sarah, I think it is the first time I have ridden a first winner for a trainer,” Crowther revealed.

“Sarah has done an awesome job with her.

“I don’t think Krisobel is very comfortable travelling on the inside. I think she was a bit worried about being crowded at the top of the straight, but she is tough and tries hard. Once she got out in the clear, she was doing her best work late.”

Bred by Spendthrift Stud, Krosbel is owned by her trainer.

She is the first foal of the 5-time winning Mint Lane (USA) mare Another Diamond, a Moonee Valley winner for Bill Cerchi, who shelled out $15,000 for her at the Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Another Diamond was a $12,000 purchase for Sprinview from the 2022 Magic Million April Online Sale.

She has a yearling filly by Vino Rosso (USA), a weanling colt by Omaha Beach (USA), and was not covered last spring.

Kristobel is the first 2yo winner of the season for Widden Stud’s striking I Am Invincible stallion Overshare, who covered 135 mares last spring at a fee of $11,000.
