Group 1 Goals for Better Than Ready's Chrysaor

Mark Smith - Saturday May 6

The strapping Better Than Ready colt Chrysaor added his name to the rapidly growing battalion of Chris Waller-trained horses heading to Queensland for the winter following a hugely impressive win in the  Thymely Food Co Hcp (1200m) at Gosford on Saturday.

Allowed to drift back to the rear of the field by Sam Clipperton, Chrysaor displayed an exciting turn of foot to defeat the Maurice colt namesake by one and a quarter lengths with the Snitzel colt Snapback a further three-quarter of a length back in third after being held up at a vital stage.

Chrysaor is no stranger to Queensland, having made all his previous four starts in the Sunshine State.

The Star Thoroughbred colour bearer broke his maiden at the Sunshine Coast and had little luck in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic after finishing a close-up fourth in the Group III BJ McLachlan Plate at Doomben.

Stable representative Damien Fitton said the handsome son of Better Than Ready had earned a shot at the Group I JJ Atkins Stakes on June 10 at Eagle Farm.

A $60,000 pinhook for Lionrock Bloodstock/Bevan Smith Bloodstock from the Yarramalong Park draft at the National Weanling Sale, Chrysaor was hammered down to Star Thoroughbreds/Randwick Bloodstock Agency (FBAA) for $115,000 when offered by Bell River Thoroughbreds at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

He is the second winner from as many to race for the winning Choisir mare New Wings, a sister to 3-time stakes winner Religify and stakes-placed Shojiki (Redoute's Choice).

A $130,000 purchase for Yarramalong Park at the 2017 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale, New Wings is out of a sister-in-blood to the champion Silent Witness.

Chrysaor a $115,000 Magic Millions yearling

In January, Vandyke Bloodstock purchased a brother to Chrysaor for $300,000 at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

After foaling a Better Than Ready filly in October, New Wings made the trek again to visit the Lyndhurst Stud Farm stallion.
