Inglis Great Southern Now Online

Media Release - Thursday May 16

Weanlings by the likes of Frankel, I Am Invincible, Zoustar, Snitzel, Lord Kanaloa, Wootton Bassett, Toronado and Written Tycoon headline a spectacular offering of foals at this year’s Great Southern Sale, for which the catalogue is now available online.

A total of 492 lots – 425 weanlings and 67 broodmares – have been finalised for the two-day sale, to be held at Oaklands on Thursday June 13 and Friday June 14.

Of the catalogued lots, 95% of the weanlings are either VOBIS Sires eligible or BOBS eligible.

There are 10 entries by leading young sire Alabama Express.

In addition to the aforementioned, there are weanlings by other leading proven sires such as Alabama Express, Pierata, The Autumn Sun, Satono Aladdin, Street Boss, Lonhro, Too Darn Hot, Capitalist, Hellbent, Shamus Award, So You Think, Spirit Of Boom, Dundeel, Farnan, Brazen Beau, Hanseatic, Night Of Thunder, Russian Revolution, Earthlight, Harry Angel, Zousain etc.

Exciting first season sire Home Affairs has eight weanlings for Inglis Great Southern.

There is also a terrific selection of exciting first season sires represented like Aclaim, Acrobat, Extreme Warrior, Home Affairs, Palace Pier, Pinatubo, Portland Sky, Profiteer, St Mark’s Basilica, Stay Inside, Tiger of Malay, Victor Ludorum, Wild Ruler, Wooded etc.

The Great Southern Sale provides buyers with their last chance of the live sales season on the Eastern seaboard to find a weanling to pinhook, a strong end user option or a broodmare in advance of the breeding season.

Given the recent success, it’s no surprise buyers continue to flock to Oaklands each year to participate in the auction.

Graduates such as Montefilia, Behemoth, Sopressa, Extra Brut, Douceur, Gytrash, On The Bubbles, Lunar Fox etc have all proven themselves in G1 company while out of last year’s sale alone came strong pinhook results at all levels of the market including $280,000 into $500,000, $80,000 into $270,000, $120,000 into $300,000, $40,000 into $180,000, $120,000 into $260,000 etc.

The broodmare catalogue this year is also enticing with mares on covers to stallions such as Alabama Express, Blue Point, Grunt, Harry Angel, Jacquinot, Ole Kirk, Pierata, Pierro, Pinatubo, Royal Meeting, Shamus Award, Spirit of Boom, Tassort, The Autumn Sun, Toronado, Wootton Bassett, Zousain etc.

The broodmares will be offered on Friday June 14 at the completion of the weanling session.

Inglis’ Victorian Bloodstock Manager James Price was confident the catalogue had all the right ingredients for buyers to enjoy both short term and long term success.

“The Great Southern Sale catalogue will again present a range of fantastic opportunities for buyers to invest at all levels of the market,’’ Price said.

“Having the likes of Burnewang North, Yulong, Blue Gum, Dorrington Farm, Gilgai, Rosemont, Noorilim, Springmount, Shadow Hill, Stonehouse, Crossley, Supreme Thoroughbreds, Three Bridges and Two Bays represented in the catalogue as vendors is fantastic and means that it is the strongest group of vendors for this sale that I can remember.

“There have been many great stories from the sale in recent years and some life changing results, so we are looking forward to another competitive renewal of the sale in June.

“The breeding stock market has begun strongly in Sydney with a record Australian Weanling Sale and plenty of great buying opportunities at the Australian Broodmare Sale and I have no doubt there are plenty of appealing opportunities in the Great Southern catalogue for buyers to capitalise on as well.’’
