BOBS Winners for 2016/2017

Tara Madgwick - Monday August 7
BOBS bonuses have made racing horses in NSW all the more lucrative so it's always interesting to look back and see just which horses raked in the BOBS money for their lucky owners with top honours for the past season shared by two fillies.

The Jason Coyle trained filly Memes (images Steve Hart) won five races during the past season earning total prizemoney of $323,325 with $70,000 of that won in BOBS bonuses.

MemesNot offered for sale, she is the first foal of minor winning Street Cry (IRE) mare Patois, whose third dam is Constant Lass, a member of the old Karioi family that brought so much success to former well known Sydney owner breeder Vic Hayes, the father of leading trainer David Vandyke.

Patois has a yearling colt by Excelebration (IRE) and will foal to Rubick this spring.

Memes is by the much maligned Redoute's Choice stallion Time Thief, who was exported to South Africa in 2015 following a lack of early success.

He has gained some redemption in recent times with the emergence of quality Group II winning mare In Her Time, who is by far and away his best performer.

ZumbelinaAlso racking up $70,000 in BOBS bonuses was the Chris Waller trained Stratum filly Zumbelina, who won four races during the past season for total earnings of $268,125.

A part-owner of superstar mare Winx, Richard Treweeke is the owner/breeder of Zumbelina, who was retained to race.

Zumbelina is the first winner for minor winning Noverre (USA) mare Ruth's Secret, who was also raced by Mr Treweeke in partnership with another of the Winx owners in Peter Tighe and his wife.

From the Leica Show branch of the famed 'Leica' family featuring Group I winners Pharaoh, Leica Guv and Light Fantastic, Ruth's Secret was covered by Nicconi last spring.

The most successful BOBS sire overall was not surprisingly Snitzel, who had the third highest BOBS earner with Arbeitsam backing $65,000 in bonuses.
