Snitzel's Arbeitsam Heading to the Doncaster

Mark Smith - Saturday March 31

Taking up his favoured front-running role, Arbeitsam turned back all challengers in Saturday's Group III ATC Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens.

The 4yo son of Snitzel was winning for the first time since his maiden stakes win in the Listed Rowley Mile at Hawkesbury back in August last year.

Ridden by Tim Clark for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Arbeitsam may have earned a start in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile with his half-length win over Maurus (GB) with Almost Court three-quarters of a length back in third. (photo Steve Hart).

Clark said Arbeitsam was a push button ride.

"He's a good, tough horse, he makes his own luck and is a pleasure to ride.," Clark said

"He fights hard and he relaxed well too, which is a big help."

Arbeitsam has been a grand money-spinner for connections. His second stakes win advances his record to 7 wins, 3 seconds and 3 thirds from 18 starts with earnings of $750,500.

Waterhouse said the gelding would take his place in the Doncaster Mile.

"We specifically chose this race to aid him getting into the Doncaster. I just felt the 2000 metres would be easier than the 1500m of the Prelude," Waterhouse said.

A 4-year-old gelding by Snitzel out of the Red Ransom mare, Workhard, Arbeitsam was a $120,000 purchase by Dynamic Syndications out of the Macquarie Stud draft at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Buyers missed a huge chance to purchase Workhard at last year's Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale.

She failed to make her $20,000 reserve and shortly later her 3yo daughter Payroll (Not a Single Doubt) went on a three stakes-winning spree and Arbeitsam won his first stakes.

After not having a live foal for the previous three seasons, Workhard was offered with a positive test, albeit on a 6th of December covering, to Scissor Kick.

She subsequently foaled a colt and was bred back to All Too Hard.
