$425,000 Teofilo filly Tops MM Weanlings Day Two

Media Release - Thursday May 23
A half sister to this season's group winner Pohutukawa jumped to the head of the top selling list at the 2019 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast today.

The filly, a daughter of Teofilo, was presented by Rothwell Park as Lot 285 and was purchased by Ian Smith's Edinburgh Park Stud for $425,000.

It is a massive result for Rothwell who purchased the filly's dam Lumina carrying today's feature seller for $180,000 at last year's National Broodmare Sale.

"It's a family that everyone wants to be inand, with a group of clients, we looked at it and we loved the filly," Smith said.

"She's a great walker, she's a half to a good horse, and there's another full sister that Darley have that they rate highly."

"Hopefully the family will only get a better. It's a proven family and we wanted to get into it," Smith added.

Yu Long Investments secured a number of quality individuals including the day's second top seller late in the afternoon, the Zoustar-Splat colt, also from Rothwell Park.

Zoustar colt from SplatThat colt, catalogued as Lot 522, is the third foal of a winning More Than Ready mare and he was knocked down for $310,000.

The team from Yu Long also secured the third biggest seller of the day, the Zoustar colt from River Drift for $280,000.

That colt, presented by Scone's Taghadoe Stud, is the first foal of a winning half sister to Singapore based stakes performers Twickenham and Black Ice.

The Irwin family's Rothwell Park led the way during the day, supplying four of the five biggest sellers. It is a richly deserved result for Rothwell who have been for many years amongst the biggest supporters of the sale.

Across the two days of the sale almost $20 million has been grossed on 338lots sold at an average price of almost $59,000 and clearance rate of over 76 per cent.

"The results today were very strong for quality horses again," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. "There's an unquenchable thirst for the good horses."

"It was a little tough at the bottom end. The clearance could have been a little bit better. We had expected it to go up a bit more, but we will continue to work on that overnight."

"We've got another good, strong lot of horses tomorrow," Bowditch added. "Hopefully we can improve that clearance rate and the sale can continue on its momentum."
