Champion Win for Carmine

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 1
Ultra consistent Commands gelding Carmine King carried the well known red and white Champion Thoroughbreds colours to victory at the ATC metro meeting at Kembla on Wednesday.

The John O'Shea trained four year-old scored a narrow win at Gosford last start and carried that good form into this tougher assignment, settling just off the leaders to enjoy the run of the race before surging home to win the 1200 metre restricted event by a length and a half.

Carmine King (pictured at the stables of John O'Shea) has won three races and placed three times from nine starts earning $55,240 and winning rider Sam Clipperton believes there are more wins in store.

"He's in very good form and he tries hard, so he's sure to keep poking along in this grade and win more races," he said.

Carmine King was purchased by Champion Thoroughbreds for $65,000 from the Murrulla Stud draft at the 2009 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and is the first foal of Marauding mare Montecatini, who comes from the family of French Group I winner Carmine Lake.

Jason Abrahams of Champion Thoroughbreds has been busy in New Zealand this week purchasing a High Chaparral (IRE) colt from Winsome for $130,000 and a More Than Ready (USA) filly from Torlundy for $100,000 during the Premier Sale and a cracking colt by Northern Meteor from Alcazaba for $135,000 at the Select Sale earlier today.
