Blue Sky Colts Headed for Guineas

Media Release - Thursday February 2
Blue Sky runners have been in great form of recent weeks, with no less than three individual colts heading towards three different Guineas in Australia and Singapore.

Last Sunday saw 3yo SUPER EASY (Darci Brahma - Parfore), notch up his 6th win fromas manystarts in Singapore for trainer Michael Freedman.

Bought by Julian Blaxland at Karaka in 2010 for NZ$140,000 from the first crop of Darci Brahma, Super Easy (pictured) started favouritein the 2011 Karaka Million, finishing a unlucky 4th forSingapore owners 'Joy N Happiness' stable, before being relocated to Singapore shortly thereafter.

A Group 2 winner of the EW Barker Trophy against the older horses in the Spring, the 3yo colt will be aimed at the Singapore 3yo Challenge Series, culminating in the Group 1 Singapore Guineas on March 30.

Should the colt run to expectations in Singapore over the Autumn, a trip to Melbourne in the Spring will be strongly considered, with Freedman previously shelving plans for the colt to run in the Coolmore at Flemington due to quarantine restrictions.

Still an entire, SUPER EASY is a half brother to multiple Queensland stakes winner OUR LUKAS, and hails from the same family as champion New Zealand2yoIL QUELLO VELOCE.

Back home, the Mick Price trained INSTINCTION (Exceed and Excel- De Lago Mist)(pictured Taron Clarke Photography) ,a last start winner of the Zeditave Stakes at Caulfied,(purchased by Price and Blaxland atMelbourne Premier in 2010 for $300,000 from the Liston's Three Bridges Farm) heads towards theAustralian Guineas at Flemingtonvia the Group 3 C.S. Hayes Stakes.

The first up win followed a win over 1400m in the Listed Hilton Hotel Stakes at Flemington on Emirates Day in the Spring.

"He's come back much bigger and stronger this time in and the win in the Zeditave impressedboth Mick and Craig Newitt as he' a horse that is probably better suited over further," commented Julian Blaxland.

"He was bred by South Australian owner/breeder Peter Katelanis, who raced his mother De Lago Mist with great success and who retained an interest in the colt.

"He's a striking individual with a huge pedigree that includes Wanted, Shrapnel, In the Mist etc so Peter and the rest of the ownerscertainly have a very exciting sire prospect on their hands."

North of the border and rounding out the Guineas bound trio is REKINDLED ALLIANCE (pictured Sportspix)(Redoute's Choice ex Rekindled Affair), who trialled nicely on the Kensington track when 4th to Foxwedge (beaten 3/4L) last Friday when partnered byCorey Brown.

Part of the 2010 Stallion Fund (bought by Blaxland for $400,000 at Easter 2010), the Gr 3 performer and brother to Melbourne galloper REKINDLED INTEREST has himself improved physically over the Christmas period, with trainer Paul Messarakeen on the colt in the lead up to the Group 1 Randwick Guineas on March 17.

REKINDLED ALLIANCE will resume in the Royal Sovereign on Feb 18,following the traditional route in the Hobartville Stakes towards the Randwick feature.

In other news Blue Sky has been active at the recent Magic Millions Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast, purchasing 5 yearlings by leading sires Fastnet Rock, Stratum, Lonhro and Starcraft to be trained by Paul Messara and Gai Waterhouse.

The Blue Sky team next heads to Melbourne Premier, Adelaide Magic Millions and then to Easter again to buy for it's Stallion Fund 2012 as a joint venture with Arrowfield in this it's 5th edition.

Stallion Fund 2011 eagerly awaits the debut of 2yo RESPONSIVE (Redoute's Choice ex Reactive), purchased from Victorian owner/breeder Jonathan Munz through the Bellerive Stud draft at Easter in 2011.

Paul Messara is delighted withthe colt thus far andthe teamhope he can add to the Stallion Fund's 66% stakes performer topurchases record.

Past graduates; BENETEAU and SHRAPNEL have been busy of late in their different vocations, the former serving108mares at Arrowfield in his freshman year and the latter just weeks away from a trial in Melbourne under the care of leading trainer Mark Kavanagh.

Stallion Fund 2008 ownersalso look forward to returning to the Dubai World Cup in March with multiple Group winner BETTER BE THE ONE again to take part in the Group 2 Al Quoz Sprint for Michael Freedman on March 31, after placing third in last year's event behind star sprinters JJ The Jet Plane and War Artist.
