Second Australian Winner for Henny Hughes

Mark Smith - Friday February 3
Making her first start since finishing third in a Listed race at Flemington last October, Contact Racing's homebred Lil Red Corvette was sent out the punters elect in Friday Nights Swift Signs handicap (1000m) at Moonee Valley and duly landed the prize, though it was a close run thing.

The daughter of Henny Hughes staged a dramatic length of the straight dual with the Exceed And Excel filly Popular Acclaim to earn the judge's decision by a nose

.

Lil Red Corvette is the second foal of the Testa Rossa mare Speedy Rossa a 5-time Melbourne winner who earned nearly $400,000.

Her granddam, the stakes-placed Bletchingly mare Expresso is a daughter of the classy kiwi mare Mapperley Heights(Sir Tristram) whose 8 wins included the South Australian Derby (G1) and Kewney Stakes (G2) and runner up in both the AJC and VRC Oaks.

Lil Red Corvette becomes the second Australian winner for the Darley shuttler Henny Hughes after Bertie's Bells opened his winning account at his first start at Launceston in December. Bertie Bells runs in the Listed Elwick Stakes for two-year-olds at Hobart on Sunday.

A powerfully made son of the former shuttler Hennessy, Henny Hughes (pictured) was a champion sprinter in the U.S. capturing the Kings Bishop Stakes (G1) and Vosburgh Stakes (G1).

He covered 92 mares ay Darley Stud last season at a fee of $16,500.
