Armed For Action In Queen Adelaide

Mark Smith - Saturday February 4

The Anthony Freedman-trained Armed For Action is blessed with a superior cruising speed and she used it to great effect in Saturday's Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes at Morphettville.

Sent straight to the front by Daniel Moor the daughter of Exceed And Excel had all of her opponents of the bit 400 metres out and was untroubled to defeat Marble Rye (Al Maher) and Flying Skipper (Danerich).

It was the second win from two starts for Armed For Action who debuted with a three and three-quarter length victory over 1005 metres at Mornington on January 13.

A $90,000 purchase by the Freedman brothers from the Milburn Creek draft at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling sale, Armed For Action (pictured as a yearling) is the fourth foal of the winning Timber Country (USA) mare Brave and Bold a three-quarter-sister to Wakeful Stakes (G2) winner and Canterbury Guineas (G1) second Timbourina.

Brave and Bold is a daughter of the Queensland Derby (G1) and Queensland Oaks (G1) winner Bravery (Zephyr Zip), the dam of Chelmsford Stakes (G2) winner and AJC Spring Champion Stakes (G1) runner-up Brave Prince (Kenmare) and William Crocket Stakes (LR) winner Valourina (Snippets) who has proven to be a gem at stud. Besides Timbourina she has left the Magic Night Stakes (G2) winner and Galaxy Stakes (G1) second Media (Gilded Time) and the Listed stakes winner Cardinal Virtue (Elusive Quality) and another two stakes-placed winners.

Milburn Creek Thoroughbred purchased Brave And Bold at the 2009 Inglis Breeding Stock sale for $420,000 when carrying Armed For Action.

She has a yearling filly by Redoute's Choice that will be consigned to the upcoming Inglis Easter Yearling sale.

Brave And Bold has a colt foal by High Chaparral (IRE) and was bred back to Medaglia D'Oro (USA).

Armed For Action becomes the 44th stakes-winner for Darley Stud's Exceed and Excel who has eight yearlings on offer at the Inglis Premier Yearling sale and a further 13 at the Easter Yearling sale.
