Back
in 2007, Encosta de Lago colt Cecconi scored a brilliant two length win in the
Listed MRC Blue Diamond Preview at his second start before going on to contest
races such as the Blue Diamond, Golden Slipper and Caulfield Guineas – five years
on and he's just sired his first winner.
Two year-old gelding Lumiere Blue broke the ice for Cecconi when scoring at Te
Rapa in New Zealand on Saturday and is the first runner for his sire.
Prepared by John Wheeler, Lumiere Blue improved off an unlucky last start third
to win the 1200 metre dash by a head at his third start and is from the
Volksraad (GB) mare Blue Paris.
Cecconi (pictured) stands at Westbury Stud in New Zealand and is by chamnpion sire Encosta
de Lago from stakes-winner Tonicity, who comes from the family of Golden
Slipper winner and leading young sire Stratum.
