Four
year-old Savabeel mare Scarlett Lady was one of the stars of the Brisbane
Winter Carnival last year when she scored brilliant wins in the Group I Queensland
Oaks and Doomben Roses, before being sidelined through injury after just two
starts in the spring.
The Graeme and Debbie Rogerson trained mare was sent to the paddock after a
bone chip injury was detected following her only Melbourne run in the Group I
MRC Underwood Stakes where she finished eighth behind ill-fated Lion Tamer and
Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed.
Tuned up with a couple of recent barrier trials, she returned to racing in the
Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Tauherenikau in New Zealand on Monday and scored a half
length win in the 1600 metre feature.
A modest $25,000 purchase for Max Whitby from the Waikato Stud draft at the
2010 NZB Premier Yearling Sale, Scarlett Lady (pictured) has the impressive record of
seven wins and two seconds from 13 starts with prizemoney of $636,076.
If she stays sound, Scarlett Lady will be a force to be reckoned with if she
ventures across the Tasman in search of autumn riches.
