Fancy Winning a Share in the Next Black Caviar?

Media Release - Tuesday February 7

Here is your opportunity to win a share in possibly the next Black Caviar with the launch of the Inglis / Sunday Herald Sun Win a Share in a Racehorse Competition.

The lucky winner will enjoy a 10% share of a yearling from this month's Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale at Oaklands to be trained by one of Victoria's leading trainers, with all trainer fees and insurance covered for 2 years.

The Victorian Coalition Government, three Victorian Metropolitan Clubs and the Bendigo Jockey Club have joined forces in a major promotion to attract even bigger crowds to this year's Victorian Festival of Racing.

There will two-for-one passes offered to all people who enter the 'Win a Share in a Racehorse' competition run through the Sunday Herald Sun. Entrants will be able to select from one of following four major Victorian Festival of Racing racedays:

• Saturday 18th Feb - Coolmore Lightning Stakes at Flemington
• Friday Feb 25th – Typhoon Tracy Stakes at Moonee Valley
• Saturday Feb 26th - Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield
• Saturday March 17th - Golden Mile Day at Bendigo

These race days give an opportunity to see champion Group One horses which could include the likes of Black Caviar (pictured), Sepoy,Americain,Pinker Pinkerand Hay List.

Peter Heagney, Director and Auctioneer from Inglis said it was fantastic to offer Victorians an opportunity to enjoy first class racing and also have a chance to win a share in a potential champion racehorse.

"Last year, around 47,000 people entered the competition to win a racehorse," Mr Heagney said.

"Inglis has seen many champion racehorses go through its Melbourne sale ring. These have included no less than the world superstar Black Caviar, Hong Kong champion Sacred Kingdom, current South African Horse of the Year Igugu, last year's Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker, along with other Group 1 stars such as Weekend Hussler, Starspangledbannerand Fields of Omagh.

"We expect this year's sale will deliver more champions of the turf; and a lucky competition entrant will win a share in one of the sale graduates, potentially following the footsteps of the world champion Black Caviar," Mr Heagney said.

The Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale runs from Monday Feb 27th, with an Open Inspection Day for the public on Sunday 26th at the Inglis sale facility at 285 Oaklands Road, Oaklands Junction.

Minister for Racing Denis Napthine said the Coalition Government would support this promotion in conjunction with Inglis Bloodstock and four Victorian race clubs, that will see thousands of two-for-one entry vouchers given away to people who enter the 'Win a Share in a Racehorse' competition.

"This is a really exciting and innovative promotion that gives all Victorians an opportunity to see world class racing for half the price while also being in the running to win a share in a potential champion racehorse," Dr Napthine said.

"The Victorian Coalition Government is proud to support a promotion that will help to boost attendances at the 2012 Melbourne Festival of Racing and this is a fantastic way to introduce more people to the excitement of thoroughbred racing while also offering the chance to experience the thrill of owning a champion galloper.

Dr Napthine encouraged the public to visit on Open Inspection Day to see the yearlings on display, hear from a panel of Victorian horse trainers giving an insight on what they look for in a yearling and attend the new owners forum.

The Coalition Government's Raceday Attraction Program is made up of all on-course wagering taxes that are put back to the racing industry to support initiatives aimed at increasing on-course attendance at Victorian thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race meetings.
