Clinton Payne of Racenet reports that classy Domesday colt Pressday is set to make his US debut at Santa Anita in North America.
Pressday was trained by Chris Waller when he won the Group I T J Smith Stakes at Eagle Farm in his juvenile season in 2010, but last year was sold to Victorian breeding operation Eliza Park, who elected to send the four-year-old to the northern hemisphere after he suffered a bleeding attack in his final Australian start when he finished down the track in the Group II Theo Marks Stakes at Rosehill in September.
Pressday (pictured www.stevehart.com.au) was transferred to the California stables of John Sadler, who told Sky Sports Radio the horse has impressed since moving to his US base.
"He got up here early November with the idea they wanted to do some more with him," Sadler said.
"He's trained well and making his first American start tomorrow. We're very excited."
Pressday's first American start is on the turf track at Santa Anita in a 1300-metre allowance race worth $US63,000. Sadler said a warm winter has ensured the entire has done plenty of work leading into Thursday's contest.
"He's done well, in our program we kind of let them tell us, we're not in a hurry when they get here but we're not taking them backwards at the same time," he said.
"He's a beautiful horse that has got a lot of ability and I think he'll run very well tomorrow.
"I think it's going to suit him because the American pace will be very fast. I want him a little relaxed and a little off the speed first time out."
In Australia Pressday had 13 starts from which he recorded five wins, earning more than $840,000. The horse is expected to arrive back in Australia later this year to commence freshman stallion duties at Eliza Park.
