Golden Slipper Dreams Alive for Leading Sires

Tara Madgwick - Friday February 10
With 258 two year-olds left in the Golden Slipper the race is well and truly on to see who will be left standing come grand final day with leading sires More Than Ready (USA), Redoute's Choice and Fastnet Rock all looking dangerous.

Vinery Stud's More Than Ready (USA) (pictured) has sired the winner of the race twice before with Sebring and Phelan Ready and looks well placed to bring up the hat-trick with 26 youngsters still in contention including the early favourite Raceway and Blue Diamond contenders Cambiaso and Samaready, not to mention impressive Sydney debut winners Later Gator and Faustus.

Arrowfield heavyweight Redoute's Choice has 19 Slipper entries headed by No Looking Back, who lost the Magic Millions on protest and debut stakes-winner Mama's Choice. An interesting colt still in contention is the Magic Millions sale-topper More Laughing, a half-brother to More Joyous that made $1,150,000 when knocked down to Peter Moody at the Gold Coast last year.

Coolmore's Fastnet Rock had multiple runners in last year's Slipper including runner-up Mosheen and well fancied Smart Missile, who was scratched at the gates, so many would think he has his hoof on the til to win the big one.

He has 18 entries led by Magic Millions winner Drieffontein and the promising Chris Waller trained filly Jade Marauder.

Darley based Exceed and Excel, who is noted for his brilliant juveniles has 17 left including stakes--winners Applegate and Armed for Action.
