Sydney based syndicators Star Thoroughbreds have been enjoying an exciting season with their juveniles who include Magic Millions heroine Drieffontein and Golden Slipper favourite Raceway, but it was a filly by promising young Queensland sire Red Dazzler that had the purple and white stars in the winner's circle on Saturday at Rosehill.
A $165,000 purchase for Star Thoroughbreds from the Newgate Farm draft at the 2011 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, the Gai Waterhouse trained Kuchinskaya (pictured as a yearling) led throughout from barrier one to dominate her peers, charging away to win the 1100 metre open juvenile event by nearly three lengths at her third race start.
Kuchinskaya was the most expensive yearling sired by Red Dazzler in 2011 and was a successful pin-hook for Newgate Farm having been snaffled as a weanling for just $28,000.
She is a half-sister to eight other winners including stakes-winner Firenza, being the tenth foal from the fine producer Zippast.
Zippast has been a regular visitor to Red Dazzler and also has a colt foal by him and was covered again last year by the Group I winning son of Red Ransom (USA), who stands at Eureka Thoroughbreds at a fee of $13,750.
The oldest progeny of Red Dazzler are just three year-olds and to date he has produced 23 winners with Kuchinskaya looming as his likely first stakes performer.
