WA
based Oratorio posted his sixth stakes-winner at Mornington on Wednesday when
lightly raced sprinter Like An Eagle powered home from back in the field to
take the Listed Hareeba Stakes over 1200 metres.
Trained at Bunbury by Clint Price, Like An Eagle was beaten a whisker at his
first run in Melbourne at Sandown on January 28, but quickly made amends for
that with this eye-catching win.
Ridden a treat by Damien Oliver, he arrived on the line with a well timed run,
his overall record an impressive six wins and two seconds from just 10 starts
with prizemoney in excess of $220,000 .
"We were happy with his last run, although disappointed he didn't win," said
Clint Price.
"He'll keep stepping up and if he's going well then the Newmarket is a
possibility."
Retained to race by his breeder, Like an Eagle is a half-brother to Group III
winner Beat The Storm from the Metal Storm (Fr) mare Stormy Business, a sister
to stakes-winner Oxidation.
Stormy Business has not had a foal since producing Like an Eagle, but was
covered by his sire Oratorio last year.
A Group III winning son of Stravinsky (USA), Oratorio (pictured) stands at Mungrup Stud at
a fee of $27,500 and covered 84 mares last year.
He had the second highest priced yearling during Tuesday's first session of the
Magic Millions Yearling Sale in Perth with a colt from Zenda fetching $220,000
for Namerik Thoroughbreds when bought by Dan Morton.
