Snitzel Filly Snares Inglis Cash

Media Release - Wednesday February 15

Exciting juvenile filly Snitzerlandnotched up an Inglis Race Series double for trainer Gerald Ryan at Mornington today when taking out the $250,000 Inglis Premier over 1200m in impressive fashion, following the victory of Cavalry Rose in the Inglis Classic last month.

Coming off a last start placing in the Listed VRC Emirates Airline Plate on Melbourne Cup Day Snitzerland ($125,000 2011 Premier, 2f Snitzel-Monte Rosa) (pictured as a yearling) was given a confident ride by jockey Corey Brown, slipping away at the top of the wide Mornington straight to win by over four lengths from Road Trippin and Repousser.

"She really impressed me today," Corey Brown said after the race.

"She has a great turn of foot and the owners are going to have plenty of fun with her.

"As far as two-year-olds go she has the feel in barrier trials, trackwork and racing of a really handy two-year-old," Brown added.

The daughter of Snitzel was bred by Arrowfield and sold out of Bellerive Stud's draft at last year's Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale for $125,000, ending up in the ownership of Neil Werrett and Steve McCann thanks to some great advice from Kitchwin Hill's Mick Malone.

Werrett is well-known as a part-owner of fellow Melbourne Premier Sale purchase Black Caviar, and he was very excited that Snitzerland had more than paid off her purchase price thanks to today's $145,000 winners cheque.

"Corey said it was a really good trial the other morning and I then spoke to Gerald about bringing her here to this race," Werrett told TVN.

"I thought it was pretty good race for her to get on the board as she'd run this way before and the prizemomey Inglis put up for this was phenomenal.

"We actually paid for the horse with the winnings today.

"I would like to thank Mick Malone who picked the horse out, we were the losing bidder then we picked her up from Gerald.

"We'll have to talk to Gerald on what's next, but it was a really good effort, Gerald's got her on the right track," Werrett added.

With today's first place prizemomey allowed when assessing Blue Diamond ballot conditions Snitzerland's position in the Group One feature is assured should connections decide to pay the late entry fee.

Last year's Inglis Premier winner Mastheadwent on to place second behind Sepoy in the Blue Diamond then fourth in the Golden Slipper.

Betting for this year's $1million Group One MRC Blue Diamond Stakes is headed by Inglis graduate Samaready, whose owners include Snitzerland's part-owner Steve McCann of Encompass Bloodstock.

11 yearlings by Snitzerland's sire Snitzel (pictured) are catalogued for the upcoming 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale from Monday February 27 to Thursday March 1.

Bellerive Stud will offer 29 yearlings at the four day sale including a full brother to today's second placegetter Road Trippin (by Charge Forward) as Lot 173

Yallambee Stud will offer a half-brother by Haradasun to third placegetter Repousser as Lot 251 within their 31 strong Melbourne draft.
