Saluting
in the $30,000 maiden on Mornington Cup day was Lonhro three year-old Tower of
Lonhro, a half-brother to talented galloper Under the Eiffel.
The Jason Warren trained three year-old was having his second start and
resuming from a long spell, but was still able to overcome a wide gate to win.
Ridden forward by Ben Melham, he parked just off the leader and then found the
line strongly to win by a short half head.
Bred and offered for sale by Torryburn Stud, Tower of Lonhro was a $42,500 purchase at the
2009 Inglis Select Weanling Sale and is the third winner for stakes-placed Danehill
mare Spire, who is shaping as a very nice broodmare having also left Under the
Eiffel (pictured Taron Clarke Photography) , who has won six races and more than $300,000 in prizemoney with a
highlight win in the Group III MRC Alannah and Madeline Foundation Stakes.
Torryburn Stud sold an Authorized (IRE) yearling colt from Spire at Magic
Millions for $110,000 earlier this year and the mare has a Magic Albert colt
foal and was covered by Mossman last year.
Torryburn Stud will offer a select draft of nine yearlings for the Inglis
Premier Yearling Sale.
