Tiger's Cub Roars in Tassie MM 2YO Classic

Media Release - Thursday February 16

Tiger's Cub made the best possible start to his racetrack career with a dazzling debut win in tonight's $50,000 Shaw Magic Millions Tasmanian 2YO Classic (1200m).

A gelded son of Hold That Tiger (USA) (pictured) , Tiger's Cub showed speed throughout and held on strongly to the line after bursting away from his rivals at the top of the straight.

A $30,000 purchase at last year's Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale, Tiger's Cub is prepared by his yearling purchaser Jim Mason at Caulfield.

The exciting youngster was sent out the favourite after showing immense promise in a recent Cranbourne trial when second to the much talked about Freedman youngster Boom Baby Boom.

In tonight's feature Tiger's Cub ($3 fav) got to the line three parts of a length clear of runner-up Western Hero ($3.30), while Kenjorwood ($4) was a head further back in third place.

"I'm tickled pink with the win," Jim Mason said after the impressive on speed victory.

"He will stay down here now and head to the Gold Sovereign Stakes.

"He will make good improvement with the run. He was pretty green but still won well," Mason added.

Tiger's Cub was bred and sold by Alwyn Shaw's Aceland Stud from Whitemore in Tasmania. It was fitting the Shaw family would part own the winner - being the sponsor of the prestigious event.

Shaw retained a share in the youngster and he races him with a large group of others and they look to have an exciting prospect on their hands.

One of 320 individual winners for Storm Cat's sire son Hold That Tiger, Tiger's Cub is from the lightly raced Noverre mare Granchildrenslove.

She in turn is out of a two-year-old French winning Gone West daughter of champion European filly Intrepidity.
