Sorrell Miss and Conquestador Win MM Features

Media Release - Thursday February 16
Sorell Miss and Conquestador had their connections cheering at Launceston tonight when they won two feature races restricted to graduates of the Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale.

Sorell Miss led home a quinella result for the powerful David and Scott Brunton stable when she scored a runaway win in the $50,000 Magic Millions Open Handicap (1200m).

The Melbourne winning mare could return to the Victorian capital or play a part in the Adelaide Carnival after racing away for a three length success in the feature sprint.

"She did a great job," co-trainer Scott Brunton said after the mare led home stablemate There Were Roses.

"We'll see how she pulls up but we're looking at both Adelaide and Melbourne with her.

"She won in Melbourne when with Robert Smerdon - so she's up to it - she's pretty good."

Sorell Miss was purchased as a yearling at the 2009 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale by Rick Polley for $28,000 from the draft of Widford Park.

The classy four-year-old mare is raced by Rick and his wife Tina and and sent her earnings to $121,806 with five wins and seven minor placings from 19 lifetime outings.

The Polley's went close to a feature race double when their quality filly Buzzing Along beat all but star mare Lady Lynette in the listed Vamos Stakes.

Buzzing Along was a $7,000 bargain at the 2010 Tasmanian Yearling Sale and she's earned $110,000 from just nine runs to date.

Sorell Miss is a daughter of Danzig's Dewhurst Stakes winner Mujahid and is from the top producing mare Lemon Soda.

A four time winning daughter of Noalcoholic, Lemon Soda has produced four winners from as many runners including the Gold Sovereign Stakes winner Testamarriage.

Further back it is the family of Oakleigh Plate winner and fellow Magic Millions graduate Reactive (7 wins and $629,300).

Meanwhile, the famous Star Thoroughbreds colours shone in the home state of syndicator Denise Martin when talented gelding Conquestador won the $50,000 Tasbreeders Tasmanian Yearling Sale 3YO Classic (1200m).

Prepared by Martin's brother in law Barry Campbell of Spreyton, Conquestador denied the Brunton family another feature win when he finished too well on the inside to score.

At the post Conquestador ($9.40) held a head margin over Lost Island ($2.40 fav), while the runner-up's stablemate Cambalara ($2.70) was another length and a half back in third place.

"He won very well," Campbell said of the $60,000 graduate of the 2010 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale.

"He's a lot better on the turf rather than the Tapeta where he's raced a lot lately."

"We'll run him in a $50,000 race here on Cup day," Campbell added.

"I still think he's six months away and I think he will make into a nice horse next year."

A son of leading Tasmanian sire West Quest(pictured), Conquestador is a full brother to the stakes performed 12 time winner Reunification and half brother to Tasmanian Guineas runner-up National Trust.

They are all products of the Launceston winning Jetball mare Entally - a half sister to the stakes winner Our Blue Label.
