JET SPUR'S flying machine Emmalene has rightly earned the title of Queensland's most promising 3YO filly and tomorrow the Liam Birchley trained youngster will be facing her stiffest test to date.
Tackling G2 company for the first time, she faces a field full of quality and has been allocated a dreadful barrier (16) – however there are many who believe she will be in the race right up to her ears if she has any luck in running.
The Jet Spur filly (pictured Taron Clarke Photography) has only started the 5 times but has been first past the post on 3 of those occasions and was desperately unlucky on her other 2 outings.
"This is obviously a very big step up in grade for her but I have no doubt she has the ability to compete against these," Liam said. "She was right at the end of her campaign last preparation when we went to Flemington and I nearly withdrew her, however we let her run around and she won that stakes race in pretty dominant fashion against some very handy fillies, including one that had finished right on the heels of Sepoy the week before (Satin Shoes).
"She has had the one run back this time in and she has come on in leaps and bounds since that outing.
"The bad barrier tomorrow will be the real stumbling block, so she will obviously need luck to go her way if we are going to figure in the finish.
"It is a top quality field of fillies but if that luck comes our way I am sure she has the class to give them a real fright."
Emmalene, who was a $110,000 purchase from the Glenlogan Park Magic Million's draft, will be ridden by Peter Robl and races in the ownership of some of Rugby Leagues best known personalities including Laurie Daley, Daryl Brohman and NSW State Of Origin coach Ricky Stuart.
GP'S NORTHERN ASSAULT!
Racing in North Queensland this week took part in Townsville on Tuesday and Rockhampton on Thursday. From those 2 meetings conducted, Glenlogan Park sires had runners in 6 of those races – winning an incredible 5 of them and running 2nd in the other!
Falvelon (pictured) was the star of the show at Townsville on the Tuesday when he sired a winning treble. His 2YO filly Sizzlelon proved too classy for her opposition when she took her career stats to 2 wins from just the 3 starts, before Stan and Marilyn Johnston continued their golden run with the progeny of Falvelon by saluting impressively with both Craiglea Gee Tee and Craiglea Fighter.
Two days later at Rockhampton it was Bradbury's Luck's turn to shine. With runners in just 2 events the prolific winner-getter claimed both races in style when Kilwinning Luck always looked in control to take out race 4 before the highly promising Goldslick made it an incredible 6 wins in a row when saluting in the following race.
Goldslick is an improving and progressive 3YO filly who is no doubt headed towards bigger things in the future and the dominance shown by these Glenlogan Park sired runners could not have come at a more fortuitous time, with the big QTIS Sale on March 18 and 19 knocking right on the doorstep.
GP'S CITY DOUBLE!
LAST WEEKEND in the Brisbane metropolitan area it was seemingly "business as usual" with progeny of the Glenlogan Park stallions taking out a city winning double – inclusive of the main $100,000 race on the card.
Falvelon's very impressive 3YO filly Crystal Doll was thrown in against some much more experienced and proven high quality mares in the big money event.
Despite drawing wide, the flying filly bounced one length in front of them and was pushed to find the lead within the first 200m. Crystal Doll then relaxed beautifully for jockey Kelvin Wharton before turning for home and clicking into another gear to never look like being headed.
"She was very good last time out when she was only just run down late in the final stages of a stakes race," Wharton said. "So despite this being another very strong field we were quietly confident she was going to give a big sight and, if things went our way, we would be right in the finish again.
"I am sure she is a black type filly of the future as she has a high cruising speed and then shows a lot of fight at the finish.
"Every time she steps out she seems to improve and I am confident she has a very nice future."
SHOW A HEART provided the other winner for Glenlogan on the day when his very progressive gelding Noble Jester took the step to city grade with a dominant win over the 1830m.
The Noel Doyle prepared gelding had been building an impressive resume at the provincials before attempting his first try on the metropolitan tracks and can now boast having won, or placed, in 6 of his 11 career starts..
