This horse has always shown more than a glimmer of stakes potential and smashed his rivals when scoring a resounding win at Canterbury on Friday night at his first run back from a spell.
The Gai Waterhouse t rained Snippetson three year-old Nobby Snip could not have been more impressive in trouncing the fit and in-form Carmine King by more than six lengths in the Benchmark 75 event over 1200 metres.
"He's always shown good ability, but Gai wasn't happy with him last preparation and he only had the one run and went out, but he's come back better and his two trials were both good so it's nice to see him come here and dominate," said stable representative Mark Newnham.
Nobby Snip (pictured as a yearling) has won three of five starts and $112,350 in prizemoney and looks set for an excellent campaign.
A $185,000 purchase from the Widden Stud draft at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Nobby Snip is the fifth winner for imported mare Pine Away (USA), whose best progeny to date is Group I Tatts Winter Stakes winner Absolut Glam, a daughter of fertility troubled sire Snowland, a full brother to Nobby Snip's sire Snippetson.
Nobby Snip was the most expensive yearling by Snippetson sold in 2010 and is in fact his most expensive yearling full stop.
Pine Away has a yearling colt by Sebring that sold exceptionally well at the Magic Millions in January, selling not surprisingly to Gai Waterhouse and James Harron for $360,000.
